You get stressed when you have to deal with a situation where you do not feel confident enough and are unsure about the outcome. When you feel challenged and doubt your capacity to deal with the situation.

Needless to say that stress is unavoidable and inevitable. It is both good and bad, depending upon the ways to deal with stress that you adopt.

However, un-managed stress can lead to states of anxiety and depression, and ruin your health and your entire life in unimaginable ways.

We all experience stress time and again – the wisdom lies in managing the stress, not in wishing it away, or looking for a magic wand to make it disappear!

Described below are seven positive ways to deal with stress. You will find that these strategies will reduce stress in your life, and, bring more excitement and enthusiasm into your life.

  1. Share Your Feelings: Being able to give vent to your feelings is such a relief. If for nothing else, this is good enough reason to maintain good relationships. When you are stressed out over something, and constant worrying is nagging at your heart, one of the first things that you should do is go to a friend and talk about your problem. In this situation a friend who is a sympathetic listener is extremely advantageous. It is not so important that he or she who may try to give you a solution; sometimes that may only increase your tensions.

Keeping things in your heart will blow them out of all proportions. Once you have unburdened yourself, you will have a clearer head, and will be able to think about your problem in a more realistic way.

  2. Exercise Regularly: Some kind of exercise must be a part of your daily routine: It's one of my favorite ways to deal with stress. You might take a walk, go for jogging, do light exercise with or without ways, and practice yoga: whatever be your favorite activity exercise generally keeps your stress levels down. It is believed that if you exercise regularly for 20-30 minutes, it will keep your body more relaxed.
Exercise is a great way to deal with stress. Exercising has a calming effect: it reduces stress hormones known as 'cortisols' and produces a feeling of happiness. Apart from this, regular exercise will help your body get rid of the toxins and make it more resilient for any future stress.

  3. Learn To Breathe: Oxygen is life. Improper breathing is both the cause and the effect of stress and tensions. When you are anxious your breathing is shallow, which only increases your anxiety. Just try: take a few deep breaths, slowly and calmly, and see how relaxed you feel.

As a way to deal with stress and anxiety, learning to breathe properly is of paramount importance. As natural a sit seems, many people forget to breathe properly. Could it be that you are feeling anxious because you are not breathing correctly? Know more about proper breathing.

  4. Re-phrase The Problem: Re-phrasing is an art; it is also a habit, and one of the constructive ways to deal with stress. When you are giving a positive turn to the phrases going around in your mind, you are not deluding yourself. You are practicing your brain 'muscles' to view the world in a different way. With practice your brain adopts this new habit and starts forming positive, hopeful, and optimistic phrases.

Instead of saying, 'I committed a blunder', say, 'I will be more careful next time'; instead of cursing yourself with, 'I am always unlucky', say, 'This time it did not turn out according to my expectations, but things are taking a turn for the better'.

Pessimism is the mother of half, if not more, of the worries in my view.

  5. Set priorities: Sometimes we are the source of our own tensions. By not taking an action on time, we let a small problem snowball into a big crisis; and only then we start putting our house in order.
Procrastination is a habit. Can you identify with any of the following? – I will do it later on, I will do it tomorrow, I will do it when I am in a proper 'mood', I will do it when I have more time, etc., etc.
Take time in your own hand, this is one of the surest ways to reduce stress and tensions from your life. Blessed is the one who understands the importance of time.

Realize that now, in this moment of time, you are creating. You are creating your next moment. That is what’s real. ~~ Sara Paddison

  6. Do something everyday that you really enjoy. This is one the most positive ways to deal with stress. Why for most of us, it is the time of childhood that is most fondly remembered? Why is it that most of us consider childhood to be the happiest time of our life?

Perhaps it has to with the quality of our activities. Play! That's what we did. What is play, if not sheer enjoyment? Play is something that has a purpose, but no destinations. It has energy, but no burden. During the time we were growing up, we started taking life too seriously. We forgot to play – more sadly, even play became work.

Take up something that your really enjoy – but it must be something that does not have an element of work attached with it. Do you enjoy reading? Do you love claying, wood crafting, knitting, jogging, chess, movies, music, playing guitar, violin, football, or anything else that is not mentioned here?

Take half an hour out of the schedule of your day – most of which is surely spent in fulfilling your duties towards others – whether it is your job or house, and spend it in doing something that you really enjoy!

This is an absolute essential to keep your sanity and keeping you happy.

  7. Acceptance: Acceptance is one of the strongest virtues, it is the essence of life, and is the guiding light for all the seekers of freedom from stress and anxiety.

    Remember –

    1. Life is not perfect,
    2. Circumstances are never perfect,
    3. You are not perfect,
    4. Other people are not perfect.

Being able to enjoy the life amidst its all imperfections can take you to bliss, and is one of the most enlightened ways to deal with stress.
