Stress is probably the biggest problem of this century. Doctors say that nearly ninety percent of our health problems are rooted in stress.

You must take steps for reducing stress before stress starts taking it's toll on your mental and physical health.

True, it often feels that pressure never ends, we cannot imagine how there can be life without stress! Yet, there are simple ways to relieve stress – the 'common sense' ways which we are aware of all the time, but prefer to forget.

Now, it is time to be reminded of a few things that are more important than anything else in life, because when stress starts taking its toll then everything will become secondary-- as they say, one stitch in time is worth nine, etc.

So here we go, these are 10 steps to a less stressed life, you can call them your stress reduction strategy.

Many of these require some changes in lifestyle, but the quality of your life will improve manifold.


Stress Reduction Techniques

1. Hurry and Worry Syndrome: Take a stock of all the activities you do. Which are activities you can cut out of your schedule to spend more quality time with you and your family?

Are you a member of some clubs or organizations? Are they really all that necessary? Give a premium to mental peace that it deserves. After all, you are as good, or as useful as your health!

Carefully consider which programs and activities you can remove from your schedule - then do it!

2. De-clutter and organize: When your surroundings are cluttered and disorganized, you tend to feel muddled on the inside, causing you more stress.

Get rid of the stuff you never use -- and take an important step towards stress reduction. Dispose it by selling it, throwing it away, or giving it to someone who'll make use of it. Once you've done that, organize what's left over and make a place for everything. If necessary, use labels and organizational containers to make it easy to find things again. You will then feel how the quality of your inner world increases—- it is inevitable!

4. Manage Your Money Well: Money is the leading source of stress. However, there's a solution for this too: budgeting. Most people don't like the word budget, but budgeting doesn't have to be difficult. In fact, financial planning actually helps you save money.

Do a search online to find a budgeting system that works best for you. It needs to be simple and easy to use every day. Keeping your finances under control is the right way to stress reduction.

You may seek the help of an experienced financial planner who can manage your finances and keep you on the right path.



5. Learn To Appreciate What You Have: Stress is often caused by fretting over things that you don't have. But, more important for living a better quality life is to learn to appreciate, and love, what you do have.

The nature of man is such that he often fails to see what he is actually having. All the spiritual teachers and other thinkers have stressed the importance of feeling grateful for what you already have. When you learn to be content with what you have right now, you'll find much more peace within yourself.

Start by feeling grateful for your healthy body, having a mother or wife or brothers and sisters or children, etc: the things that are so close to you that you miss them.

6. Regular exercise: When you workout, your body burns off more than just fat and calories. Exercising drains away the toxins out of your body that get accumulated due to periods of stress.

If you're stressed due to work situations or family conflict, getting a good workout will help you in stress reduction. You'll be able to think and reason more clearly. Exercise, of 20 minutes or more, takes you to meditative states, and helps to instill in you feelings of tranquility and peace.

7. Eating healthy: Yes, eating healthy foods really does relieve stress because when your body is nourished properly, it functions optimally. Eating right lends itself to clearer thinking.

When you are working on stress reduction for improving the quality of your life, take care that your food consists of large helpings of fruits and, vegetables. Take in fiber rich food. Lots of carbohydrates – they increase the production of serotonin, the 'relaxation chemical.' Drink lots of water.

You have to take note of your body's constitution to decide upon the best diet for you—but the above should give you an idea.

As you can see, these are simple steps that help you in stress reduction—- albeit they call upon you to change some of your habits—- but, is stress also not a product of our habits?

Think about it, carefully!
