Why Practice Stress Management?

It becomes very important for you to adopt sound stress management and relaxation techniques to keep one step ahead of the stress levels that are always overtaking you.In the hurly burly of everyday life our bodies and mind are taking a beating. In the fast pace of present lifestyle most of our energy is expended in the business of living – it may well be called the the survival syndrome of modern life.



Stress is good up to a level – you enjoy it, and use its energy to propel forward. But too much of stress for too long is killing! It disturbs your emotional equilibrium, pulls down your efficiency levels and affects your physical health.



The stress management and relaxation are two different things. Understand them both to live a healthy and more efficient life:


You manage stress by -


  1. reducing, avoiding and changing the stressors in your life, and,
  2. changing your reactions to stressful situations by adopting a healthy lifestyle, learning to cope, adopting a positive attitude and developing a support network, etc.

Under excess stress much of your energy is expended in coping with symptoms of stress. You must have noticed how your muscle are tense and breathing is shallow – all this takes away the energy that could otherwise have invested into a productive output.


Some of the relaxation techniques are – deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery. Performing a relaxation exercise -


  1. Increases your energy level,
  2. makes your body and mind quiet and relaxed, and,

Make stress management and relaxation techniques a part of your everyday life strategies and learn to perform with higher energy levels.


Managed Stress Equals Channeled Energy

Don't think that practicing relaxation will dampen your enthusiasm or reduce your energy levels in any way. It is the exact reverse. When you reduce stress much of your blocked energy is released, you are able to think more clearly and are able to bring more enthusiasm into your life. Stress slowly drains you and kills your enthusiasm and zest for life.


Stress management and relaxation techniques don't kill the stress response, or dampen the zest and gusto in any way. These techniques help you to manage your responses to stress, think clearly, manage your emotions and channelize your energy.


By learning to manage stress and practicing relaxation, you gain -


  1. More energy,
  2. Clear mind,
  3. Better decision making,
  4. Increased motivation,
  5. Emotional clarity, and,
  6. Better control over your life.
