5 Simple Relaxation Techniques For De-Stressing

Relaxation Techniques For Stressful Times

There are times when you are so disturbed by stress and tensions that you wish for a quick reprieve, a respite from pressures.

However, you're so busy and caught up in the moment that you just don't have the time to unwind. But, you should not forget that long periods of stress can leave some unwanted after-affects for you – like, hypertension, muscular pains, irritable bowels, disturbed sleep, etc. So, it is always better to take a break and use some simple relaxation techniques for reducing the affects of stress.

Fortunately there are simple ways to relax, even during your busiest days, that don't require a lot of time or equipment.

Here I am giving 5 simple relaxation techniques that are my favorite:

1. Deep Breathing: When you're stuck in a queue at the grocery store, instead of stressing out because there aren't enough cashiers and every line has 5 people with heaping carts of groceries, use that time to relax your body by taking some deep breaths. Deep breathing brings extra oxygen in your blood. Your blood circulates that extra oxygen throughout your body helping your inner systems recharge.

Taking five slow deep breaths will do the trick. The proper breathing technique is to inhale deeply through your nose and breathe out from your mouth.

Not only will deep breathing help you relax, it'll calm your mind, reduce brain fog, and you'll feel much more alert and ready to take on life!

Deep breathing is one of the simple relaxation techniques that can be done anywhere when you're feeling stressed or just want to clear your mind.

2. Exercise: What if you are on a very important project on your work place? The tension is taking its toll and you find your energy levels going down, as if the stress has sapped your energy out. You find that you are getting tired, getting irritated easily, and your mind has also slowed down a bit.

It is important that you are able to get relaxed in the middle of this whirl of business, restore your balance, calm your frayed nerves, and be able to work at the peak of your efficiency.

Helpfully, there are some simple relaxation techniques, some simple exercises, you can do while you're at work to help create a sense of calm; and these also do not require you to leave your work place.

- If your job requires you to sit at a computer all day long, make sure you get up and move around for a few minutes every hour. This helps circulate the blood through your body. This simple exercise in self care will make you feel more alert and focused.

- While sitting at your desk, roll your head around, from side to side and from front to back with your eyes closed. This technique helps to relieve neck tension, and increases blood flow to your brain. This is a natural and easy way to relax.

- During a break or lunchtime, go for a walk. Walking is a great way to clear your mind and your body will benefit from the extra exercise as well.

3. Meditation: This is one of my most favorite relaxation techniques. Ten minutes of meditation can restore your equilibrium of mind like nothing else. Meditation brings you out of the most difficult emotions, and helps you deal with life's tensions and problems from a position of strength.

There are thousands of ways that you can meditate. Learn any meditation technique that appeals to you. Meditation does not necessarily mean that you have to spend an hour or half an hour in a secluded place. There are meditations that take not more than five minutes, and yet are very relaxing.

With the advancement of technology, many relaxation techniques have been made possible which you could not even imagine earlier. For example: binaural meditations. If you feel that meditation is not right for you, or you find it too much of an effort, then binaural meditations are for you. They can take you to those relaxing states, which are possible only with the help of meditations. You can instantly download them and start immediately. WildDivine CDs make use of bio-feedback and beautiful imagery to take you to states of deep calm: very popular and highly effective.

4. Meet Friends: When you are worried over some personal affairs for a long period, it starts affecting not only your body, there are some subtle changes in your moods, as well as your thinking patterns. Haven't you noticed how periods of tensions create self doubts in your mind? Do you also not start doubting your self worth, and does not your self esteem take a plunge?

During such periods your friends are the best anti-dote–- by friends I mean all kinds of well wishers: brothers, sisters, cosines, grandma, grandpa, colleagues, friends, etc. They are those ones whom you can count upon. With whom you can share your feelings and get helpful advice.

Do contact them, go and meet these loved ones – share your feelings, discuss, pontificate, lecture, unburden yourself, and laugh a lot. This is the most effective of all the relaxation techniques that, when you start getting bothered by feelings of helplessness and worries, gives you the courage and conviction in your own self worth and capabilities.

A circle of well meaning people gives your soul a resting place, and an oasis of assurance.

5. Laughter: Laughter has been proven to be an instant stress reliever. Now I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to be seen as a nut case, so laughing out loud when you're in line at the store or sitting at your desk may not be the best time. Though, of course, you can consider joining a laughter club near you.

Whenever you can, get someone involved in your laughter with you.

- Tell a funny joke or story to a co-worker (at an appropriate time, of course).

- Play a fun game or sing a silly song with your kids as you're driving.

- Watch funny videos on YouTube.

Laughter, even if it is artificial, instantly reduces stress levels. In stressful times don't leave a chance to laugh and you will see how effective a relaxation technique a simple belly laugh can be!

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) impacts thousands of people every year between October and March. For those dealing with physical or emotional distress, finding laughter in daily life can profoundly enhance healing and the quality of life! If you or someone you know is experiencing a health or emotional low, laughter exercises as found in this Self-Healing Expressions email course can be an adjunct to a healthy outlook and healing. Course instructor is Lynn Shaw, Author and Laugh Therapist.

Engaging in these simple, everyday relaxation techniques will help to sustain and strengthen you throughout the day.

Taking care to un-wind and de-stress must be a regular part of your self care regimen!
