How To Deal with Stress: The Three Fold Path

How To Deal With Stress

Is stress taking most of the happiness away from your life? Do you occasionally suffer through periods of intense turmoil and don't know how to deal with it?

Here, I will tell you about the power of positive habits that will change your life, and have the potential to take you out of the spiral of negativity you may have created for yourself. I will tell you how to deal with stress in your life with three essential habits that will keep you in a positive state of mind, and develop strength in you to cope with all kinds of pressures and stresses in your life.

Here are those three essential habits that will increase your resilience:

  1. Keep Body Active: The body was not meant to be kept stationery, as we are prone to do in our present lifestyles. Your body was designed to move. When we are physically active, we help our body release hormones and keep systems active that help it remain healthy and dynamic. It also helps you to deal with stress levels, and also reduces anxiety and depression.
You can keep you body active in so many ways, depending upon your situation, work, lifestyle, age etc. But exercise is an activity which can be incorporated in most of the life styles, and be made a part of daily routine. Moderate exercise is most advisable: a 30 minute exercise is enough-- whether it is in the form of a walk, yoga, jogging, swimming, dancing, or whatever you desire.
Try to find something that you really enjoy doing else it will be difficult to maintain the habit after a few days.

  2. Maintain Inner Calm: You can maintain inner calm through meditation. No need to go through advanced meditation techniques. You can make it as simple or as complicated as you want. Presently our motive is to quiet the mind, to understand how to deal with stress and be able to lead a happy life.
You can focus on your breathing. You can visualize a scene that makes you feel relaxed. The goal is to simply quiet your mind and to clear away unwanted and/or unconscious thoughts. Once you can learn how to control your thoughts and experience inner calm, you can instantly have a better reaction to stress and anxiety. It changes your mindset.
How long should you quiet your mind? When creating a new habit, it’s best to start small. Create a habit you absolutely know you can stick to. Start with 5 minutes of meditation. Add it to the beginning or end of your day, whichever is easiest.

  3. Watch Your Nutrients: To be able to deal with stress in your life, it is important to keep an eye on what you eat. At one level body is like a machine: if you supply it with energy and good quality oil and maintain it at regular intervals, it will run smoothly for years. Similarly, your body needs a variety of nutrients and vitamins to help it run optimally.
When you take care of essential nutrients that your body requires, you not only increase it strength and longevity, you will also be able to manage stress, and keep away anxiety and depression. When you ingest anxiety elevating nutrients like alcohol, caffeine, sugar and nicotine then you will generally experience heightened stress levels, and may not known how to deal with stress.
Take a multi-vitamin. Cut back on alcohol, caffeine and sugar. And add a serving of fruits or veggies to each meal and snack. It is an essential part of living a physically and mentally healthy life, be able to deal with stress, and be in control.

The three habits that I have described above are not difficult. Yes it might be difficult to adopt them, because it will call for some paradigm shift in your life; some essential life style changes, and some re-prioritizing may also be called for. It does require some effort and mostly it is a matter of commitment.

Make a promise to your inner most self that you will make all sincere efforts to understand how to deal with stress and lead a happy life. Experts say that it takes three weeks to adopt a new habit. Commit the following three weeks to live a low stress, happy and healthier life.
