The benefit of time management is realized by those who manage their time wisely and live a low stress life. If you keep on acting as if there is an infinite amount of time available to you, and that some day you will get around to doing important tasks that you have kept pending, then more often than not, you will only end up with the following symptoms –
• You are more stressed, • You are more frustrated, • You get irritated easily, • You are fatigued, • You have become forgetful, • You loose sleep, • You suffer from headaches, and, • You have a chronic sense of guilt.
Only a few people are born with such innate qualities and habits that enable them to manage their time well. These are the people who are able to live more productive lives. But those of us, who are not born with these magical qualities, can learn to adopt a few good habits. You may think that it will be tough to do so. But it looks worth its while when you realize that you get more control over your life, which is the real benefit of time management, besides witnessing many other positive changes: Achieve your personal and professional goals – Good management of time is nothing but art of being focused and aware. You are focused towards your short or long term goals and you are aware of the resources available to you. The benefit of time management is that you plan ahead and you get less distracted by un-important matters. You accomplish more and reach faster towards your goals. You give priority to important over urgent – Many of the urgencies will never arise if important matters are attended to in a timely manner. But, life being unpredictable, urgent matters do keep on coming. The benefit of time management is that you don’t loose sight of important matters while attending to urgencies. If you are not goal focused, urgent matters tend to hog the lime light, and you loose your focus. One of the reasons for this is that it is convenient – you blame it on boss, on traffic, on weather or your plumber. Managing time requires effort, and a sense of purpose. Most importantly, it makes you accountable. You are free from stress, clutter and anxiety – Managing your time well saves you time. It also makes your mind free of clutter. And office and house also – clutter-free, I mean. As I said above, when you manage your time and plan ahead, you make yourself accountable. It becomes incumbent upon you to ensure that the things are around you are organized. Else, much of your time gets wasted in searching and sifting through the clutter. Things are under control, you are the boss! Isn’t it tough, man! It is. But, as they say in my native place, all good things come at a price! You overcome procrastination – Since you are accountable, and are aware of the cost of getting distracted and know that you will miss out on the things that you hold important, and you are aware that time is always in short supply; you also become aware of the havoc that procrastination can inflict on your life. It is one of the toughest habits to break, but the benefit of time management is always felt by even habitual procrastinators. If you follow the good practices of Time Management, you tend to be in control, and one day, procrastination may even become a thing of past. Further Reading Signs of Poor Stress and Time Management
