Aromatherapy oils can be used therapeutically for stress relief and relaxation. But how can you use them for getting maximum benefit?

The pure essence of aromatic plants, otherwise known as essential oils, provides physical and psychological benefits when used correctly and safely. These benefits can come from both inhalation and physical application.

When you use aromatherapy products in the right way, their effects can be noticed almost immediately.

There is a wide variety of aromatherapy extracts and oils to choose from, and each serves a different purpose. For example, lavender has a calming effect, while oils from the family of mint - such as peppermint and spearmint - offer a stimulating effect. The lungs are also benefited from the naturally occurring chemicals in the fragrances, offering a therapeutic benefit. For instance, the diffusion of eucalyptus oil can help break up congestion.

Essential oils that are applied topically are absorbed into the blood stream and aid in health, beauty and stress reduction.

These extracts are made use of in a variety of aromatherapy products: bath salts, massage oils, soaps, fragrances, air fresheners, candles etc.

Different Ways To Use Aromatherapy

Here are some aromatherapy products which you can use to get the benefits of aromatherapy:

1. Essential oils: Now that you want to use aromatherapy for its health benefits, where can you get these oils and extracts?

These oils can be found at many health food stores and also online. Pick out your favorites or ones that are known to have the effect you're looking for. Two or more oils can be combined for a new scent and a dual effect. To get Essential Oils click here.

2. Diffusers: Essential oils can be circulated in the air with the help of diffusers. Cold air diffusers use the motion of the air in the room to help diffuse the essential oil.

Hot air diffusion is usually done by steam or a gentle warming of the oils.

3. Misting bottle: Misting bottles are a great way to spread the essential oil without having to use a diffuser. They fit conveniently into your purse or pocket and can provide a quick spritz of essential oils as needed.

4. Incense and Candles: You can use aromatherapy scents in the form of candles and incenses. The fragrances create an environment of relaxation and calm. Choose the appropriate fragrances for your requirement. These candles and incenses create the perfect ambiance for you to relax or work.

There are many other aromatherapy products for taking the advantage of aromatherapy. However, the four options described above would be a great place to start if you're looking for some natural help for stress relief and relaxation.

Undiluted aromatic oils should never be applied directly to the skin. Carrier oils, such as cold pressed vegetable oils, are used to dilute the concentrated essential oils and add moisturizing ingredients to help with absorption.

Use aromatherapy products as a great alternative to some traditional medicines and treatments. By going the natural route, you avoid some of the negative side effects of pharmaceuticals, while at the same time providing additional benefits.

Many health food stores carrying essential oils have knowledgeable staff that can explain different uses of these aromatic extracts. Classes and seminars are also sometimes available in your local area. Search for them online or ask your local health food store. You can explore some good books on aromatherapy.

Remember to use essential oils sparingly! They're concentrated and usually just a few drops will go a long way.
